Nextel Phone GPS Option

Nextel phone with GPS option  - Anyone who travels regionally because of their profession will find themselves in the position of driving to new places while talking on the phone every day.  Sales representatives, real estate agents and delivery people have made this situation much easier by using their existing mobile phone to receive GPS service.  This helps streamline the two functions of always being reachable by clients, while getting accurate directions to get going faster.  A Nextel phone with GPS option is the perfect answer for someone who has to cover a large geographical area everyday in order to go to meetings and see clients.

Some of the Nextel models that are capable of receiving GPS service include the i88s, the i265 through the i930 series, the ic402, the ic502, and Blackberry models 7100i and 7520.  Two of the most popular services that are compatible with Nextel models are Sprint Navigation and TeleNav GPS Navigator.  Both downloadable services charge a monthly fee of less than $20.00 per month and have similar features.  The main difference is the service area.  Before you order, ask which service is better for your location, because the GPS option for the phone doesn’t work if you don’t get the signal.

As was stated before, both Sprint Navigation and TeleNav GPS have very similar features, so here is a breakdown of what both services generally provide:

• Full color maps are provided for the contiguous 48 states.  The maps are clear and easy to read and can also be viewed in 2-D, 3-D and zoomed in or out.  Just remember though, that unlike a GPS navigator with a four inch screen, your maps will only be as big as the as the screen on your phone.  So, if you want to look at the map, it is best to preview it before you start driving and then use the voice directions while on the road.

• After you program your route and you have looked at the map, both services provide you with turn-by-turn directions in a clear voice that comes out of the speaker you use with the phone.  For example, as you are traveling, the phone will announce the street that you are on, and tell you how far to go on that street.  As you reach the street you need to turn onto, it will announce that street and tell you to make a left or right.  Then, it will tell you if your destination is on that street, and will also tell you what side of the street the address is on.

• One of the best features of having GPS on your phone if you are traveling for business is the automatic reroute function.  If your mind is on your business and the road at the same time, missing a turn is very likely, but it is not a problem.   TeleNav and Sprint GPS Navigation will quickly update your route and redirect you to your destination. Your next instruction will be announced and displayed onscreen at the same time.

• Another great feature is the business finder.  It can instantly locate any business in the area by category including restaurants, hotels, gas stations, parking lots and all of the other places you might need to find during your day on the road.  The one bonus about using this service is that the business information is automatically updated every time you use the service.   Regular GPS navigators come with preloaded maps that have to be updated manually or by purchasing new software.

• Fuel finder and parking finder functions can find the cheapest gas in the area and the nearest available parking for the location you will be visiting.  You can also use the “Where am I” function to enter your car’s location into the system.  If you get lost, your phone will help you find the way back to your car.
